Mirrors Edge 2D – Bridge Project – Research (Creative Futures)

So as part of a brief I was given I was asked to design a bridge (full post coming soon) and during the design process I had the idea of creating a parkour bridge for free-runners. I presented the idea to my tutors and they suggested doing the final thing in the style of a 2D side-scrolling platformer. Which sparked my memory to a game I played when I was a wee lad; Mirrors Edge 2D. If you’re unfamiliar with Mirrors Edge it’s a first-person platformer (created by DICE and published by EA back in 2008) built around the free-running/parkour movement mechanic, and it is one of my favourite games of the seventh console generation. Around the same time “The Fancy Pants Adventures” were also very popular, they were made in Flash and are still free to play on the creators website. Anyway, When Mirrors Edge was announced the creator of “The Fancy Pants Adventures” made Mirrors Edge 2D; it uses the same mechanics and controls as Fancy Pants but implements things found in the Mirrors Edge universe. The main point of the game is to use parkour to traverse the beautifully hand-drawn levels collecting “Runner Icons”, “Runner Bags” and secret files (which are hidden in sub-levels). If you wish to play the game yourself you can find it HERE. Enjoy 🙂
